About this lot
Ethiopia is the birthplace of Gesha. The Gesha cultivated in Ethiopia isn’t the same genetic line as Panama Geisha. In Ethiopia, “Gesha” commonly refers to three selections:
- Gori Gesha (GG): selections replicated from the genetic diversity found in the Gori Gesha coffee forest.
- Illubabor Forest 1974 (IF): discovered during a 1974 survey in the Illubabor forest and later developed by Ethiopia’s agricultural research center for disease resistance.
- Gesha 1931 (G31): forest selections named for their plant characteristics, bean appearance/screen size, and cup profile—very similar sensorially to Panama Geisha.
